Blue Sheen Moonstone

$39.00

Medium dome moonstone from Tanzania with a pure blue adularescence. Eye clean stone except for a few small mineral inclusions towards one tip. This is one of the rare moonstones that has two flash angles about 10 degrees apart rather than one, not sure why this happens but it definitely increases the color. This is obviously a skinny stone so will need some protection while setting. Black/oxidized back plate is recommended to increase the contrast and pop of the glow. This is orthoclase moonstone, the rarer solid colored moonstone. Moonstone is actually used to refer to two different minerals, orthoclase moonstone and its cousin ‘rainbow moonstone’ which is really just white labradorite and tends to be much more heavily included with significant color variation. Technically orthoclase is the only ‘true’ moonstone as labradorite’s color is caused by a different mechanism but it is just a case of common names in gems being misleading.
