Silver Sheen Moonstone

$50.00

Moonstone from Myanmar with a pure white adularescence. This is technically a cat’s eye moonstone although it is not the strongest example I have seen of the effect and is really only visible under a point source light like the sun or a flashlight (as is generally the case for even strong cats eye stones). The cats eye is aligned just off of the vertical axis of the drop so it is visible in the right conditions but will not always be obvious. Nearly eye clean stone except for a few tiny mineral inclusions. Black/oxidized back plate is recommended to increase the contrast and pop of the glow. This is orthoclase moonstone, the rarer solid colored moonstone. Moonstone is actually used to refer to two different minerals, orthoclase moonstone and its cousin ‘rainbow moonstone’ which is really just white labradorite and tends to be much more heavily included with significant color variation. Technically orthoclase is the only ‘true’ moonstone as labradorite’s color is caused by a different mechanism but it is just a case of common names in gems being misleading.
