Blue Sheen Moonstone

$44.00

Moderately included blue sheen moonstone from Tanzania, medium dome and well centered color, one small partial thickness line that may be a crack, but I can’t break it by hand. Should be okay and given that moonstone can be somewhat fragile anyways, high impact settings aren’t recommended regardless. Black/oxidized back plate is recommended to increase the contrast and pop of the glow. This is orthoclase moonstone, the rarer solid colored moonstone. Moonstone is actually used to refer to two different minerals, orthoclase moonstone and its cousin ‘rainbow moonstone’ which is really just white labradorite and tends to be much more heavily included with significant color variation. Technically orthoclase is the only ‘true’ moonstone as labradorite’s color is caused by a different mechanism but it is just a case of common names in gems being misleading.
