Silver Sheen Moonstone
$35.00
Moonstone from Myanmar with a pure white adularescence. This is technically a cat’s eye moonstone although it is not the strongest example I have seen of the effect and is really only visible under a point source light like the sun or a flashlight (as is generally the case for even strong cats eye stones).. Nearly eye clean stone except for a tiny mineral inclusion in the center of the dome just under the surface which is not visible unless you are looking for it. Black/oxidized back plate is recommended to increase the contrast and pop of the glow. This is orthoclase moonstone, the rarer solid colored moonstone. Moonstone is actually used to refer to two different minerals, orthoclase moonstone and its cousin ‘rainbow moonstone’ which is really just white labradorite and tends to be much more heavily included with significant color variation. Technically orthoclase is the only ‘true’ moonstone as labradorite’s color is caused by a different mechanism but it is just a case of common names in gems being misleading.
