Blue Sheen Moonstone

Moderately included blue sheen moonstone from Tanzania, freeform shape, medium dome, and well centered color. A few small cracks that do not seem structural. Moonstone can be somewhat fragile, high impact settings should be avoided. Black/oxidized back plate is recommended to increase the contrast and pop of the glow. This is orthoclase moonstone, the rarer solid colored moonstone. Moonstone is actually used to refer to two different minerals, orthoclase moonstone and its cousin ‘rainbow moonstone’ which is really just white labradorite and tends to be much more heavily included with significant color variation. Technically orthoclase is the only ‘true’ moonstone as labradorite’s color is caused by a different mechanism but it is just a case of common names in gems being misleading.
