Cat’s Eye Silver Sheen Moonstone

$95.00

Moonstone from Myanmar with a pure white adularescence. This is a good cat’s eye moonstone, but it should be noted that the effect shows up best under a point source like sunlight or a flashlight. Moonstone is a less crisp cats eye than the archetypal chrysoberyl so it will not always be visible, in diffuse lighting it will just have a standard white glow. The eye is oriented ideally along the vertical axis of this stone. Nearly eye clean stone except for a tiny inclusion on one end. Black/oxidized back plate is recommended to increase the contrast and pop of the glow. This is orthoclase moonstone, the rarer solid colored moonstone. Moonstone is actually used to refer to two different minerals, orthoclase moonstone and its cousin ‘rainbow moonstone’ which is really just white labradorite and tends to be much more heavily included with significant color variation. Technically orthoclase is the only ‘true’ moonstone as labradorite’s color is caused by a different mechanism but it is just a case of common names in gems being misleading.
